Hellebore
As winter wages on, the maladies and seasonal depression that come with the cold and dreary weather increasingly inhabit our minds. Inhabiting the garden, whether literally or in the garden of the soul, can remind us that some things are capable of thriving and blooming in the cold starkness of the season.
Take, for example, the Hellebore - sometimes known as the winter rose; a plant that, with its myriad varieties, can bloom in seemingly impossible colours in the dead of the iciest season. In cooler climates, Hellebores can be observed maintaining their flowers and foliage under snow; what may seem a feat of resilience but is actually perfectly natural for this mesmerising plant.
